Mehen

Mehen - the "OuroDev"
from Wikipedia
The first known appearance of the ouroboros motif is in the Enigmatic Book of the Netherworld, an ancient Egyptian funerary text in KV62, the tomb of Tutankhamun, in the 14th century BC. The text concerns the actions of the god Ra and his union with Osiris in the underworld. The ouroboros is depicted twice on the figure: holding their tails in their mouths, one encircling the head and upper chest, the other surrounding the feet of a large figure, which may represent the unified Ra-Osiris (Osiris born again as Ra). Both serpents are manifestations of the deity Mehen, who in other funerary texts protects Ra in his underworld journey. The whole divine figure represents the beginning and the end of time.

Proposed Lore Points

  • Ouroboros Lore already dictates a time span that is 'supposedly' set (Carbon Law) for how far forward and back in time any one individual can go, with the one known exception being the founder of Ouroboros.
  • The current age is the furthest back that the Menders can travel (to meet the player)
    • (Maybe) The limitation of Ouroboros is not due to a fixed forward and back, but due to the fracture point. They can only go so far past the fracture point, but a person that exists/existed before the fracture can go back further in time.
  • The following is taken from The Pilgrim's Introductory Dialog, perhaps to be used/twisted for each faction?
"You may be curious about Ouroboros. I assure you that we are here to facilitate change both now and elsewhen. Time has and will go awry and it is Ouroboros that will correct it."
While Ouroboros welcomes all, this is not a task for a simpleton, but one who can wrap his intellect around a four dimensional space. If you believe that you have the comprehension to grasp such fluid and oftentimes paradoxical concepts, please join us.
Would you like to begin?"
"Time has and will go awry and it is Ouroboros that will correct it", is a key idea. Brain still percolating around that.
  • Possibilities exist for teasing The Coming Storm, but have the Sunset actually be caused by a Temporal Paradox created when a organization founded to stop an event succeeds, causing there to be no need for the organization to form. Thus Ouroboros succeeding at stopping The Coming Storm before it can truly form caused time to start collapsing on itself and only a few places existing in a fifth dimension and thus "safe from harm" were saved from the shattering.
Delving Deeper and Deeper into established lore bits for Ouroboros, and there are some very disturbing undertones going on...

Divisions of roles

Using the Menders as a rough template for a splinter cell of Time Travelers

  • Pilgrim is actually the rank of the lowest level of the Menders
It might be safe to consider using 'Pilgrim' as a generic name for minion level NPCs
  • Liuetenants might be harder to just have a generic title, Initiates, Novices, Seekers, Can take input.
  • Menders as Bosses with named Menders for Elite Bosses?
